Edgar Brandt Cobra Sculpture • Signed - E Brandt
Item #1083 SOLD
Here’s a rare cobra sculpture by renown French artist and premier metalsmith of the twentieth century, Edgar Brandt (1880-1960). This coveted art-piece was painstakingly hand sculpted (circa 1921-1926) and designed to be used as a paperweight. It practically “dares” one to remove the papers it protects! This charmed snake is made of enduring, hefty and richly patinated iron – fer forgé and is signed E Brandt on the lower coil.
This sculpture is featured prominently in one of the most important books about the life and creations of Edgar Brandt; “Edgar Brandt, Master Of Art Deco Ironwork” published by Harry N. Abrams, 1999.
