Bronze Javelin Thrower by A. P. Hugonnet French 1930s
Item #1397 SOLD
A wonderful and very large original bronze by A. P. Hugonnet. Obviously depicting the classic javelin thrower. This is very well designed and quite an intense figure. Look at his face, look at his hands, lots of details. You know so many of these classic athletic poses were inspired by the 1924 Paris Olympics which served as a great breeding ground to influence the designs by many artists of these stylized male statues during this time. Our man here may have been fashioned after one of the great javelin athletes competing in Paris during 1924. Unfortunatley the original base was broken, but we were able to make a replica of the original (with two pieces in a stepped affect) and used a piece of back marble with his original signature, taken from the original base. As you can see, some time was spent to artistically inlay this into the new base. It is stamped “bronze” on the figure and is a very impressive piece.
