Belgian Art Deco Bronze Female Sculpture by Joseph Witterwulghe. The quality and composition of this piece is unique and a pleasure to look at. Very high-quality bronze production signed on the base by the artist with the foundry stamp as well. A beautiful woman in a very seductive pose. Executed circa the 1930s by this important artist who has had many international auction results.
WITTERWULGHE Joseph (1883-1967)
Belgian artist, who was active as a sculptor, but also as a medalist and painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels with J. Dillens, Ch Van der Stappen, and Th. Vinçotte. He was teaching for 28 years at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Brussels. Witterwulghe designed many statues, figures, busts and portraits. At the beginning of his career, he made realistic sculptures. The work of Rodin, Bourdelle and Eugène Carrière influenced his style later.
