Art Deco Marble Sculpture by Joe Descomps

This stunning all original statue made of pure white marble by Joe Descomps shows so much grace, talent and sophistication. Descomps was a master sculptor of the Art Deco period  whose worked is extremely sought after, often imitated and copied. He is well known for bronze statues and working with ivory as well.

His full name is Joseph Jules Emmanuel Cormier (Joe Descomps) and he gained expertise and fame before many of the sculptors we associate with the Deco period. Born in 1872, he rose to prominence in 1898 with his award winning designs for jewelry in the Art Nouveau style and then gained acclaim for his statues , most often with beautiful women as the subject matter.

The nice thing about owning a real marble statue is that is one of a kind. It is never a cast piece but done by the hand of the artist. Look at the gentle smile, the details of the back, feet and hand positions. Also she is wonderfully draped to cover her breast.  Completed around 1920. This is both original and fantastic.
