1930s Belgian Art Deco Copper Wall Plaque Quintet Maredsous Métiers D'Art

Item #1233 SOLD

Here’s a rarified quintet of 1930′s Art Deco Copper Wall Plaques from the Métiers D’Art at the Maredsous Abbey in Belgium. The condition of each stunning wall plaque is truly excellent. The artistic craftsmanship of each piece is imaginative, beautifully executed and possesses a strong deco sensibility. These would be break-taking in a grouping over a mantel, console or perhaps on a wall above a sofa. Each copper plaque bears the authentic Maredsous CSPB (Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti – Cross of the Holy Father Benedict) and Métiers D’Art stamp and sits in an frame decorated with an Art Deco swirl relief motif.

About Maredsous Métiers D’Art:
Maredsous Abbey is a Benedictine monastery at Denéenear Namur in Belgium. It was founded on November 15, 1872. Maredsous founded Métiers School of The Arts to serve as a centre for fine arts and crafts. The school’s activities were curtailed by World War I and it was almost closed down in 1919, but it survived by widening its work in a more modern style for outside customers.
