Henri Quittelier Belgian Oil Painting of Welders at Work
Item #628 SOLD
With an unusually long career, he died in 1980 at the age of 96, having painted from the turn of the century thru the 1970s! He worked in oil and lithography His training was at the Academie des Beaus Arts Brussels where he was a pupil of Emile Fabry. He was co founder and president of the Ukkel Art Center in Belgium, and he is noted for his paintings of villagers in their daily pursuits in the town of Ukkel. Many of his landscapes, seascapes and works have been called “nostalgic”, but this one estimated to have been done in the mid 1950s has a masculine, modern subject of welders at work in the early evening, the bright flash of light fascinating to a crowd of onlookers silhouetted in the background. It has a handsome frame and is well preserved.
