Modernist French Art Deco Silver-Plate Jewelry Box in style of Puiforcat
Item # 1788 SOLD
Measurements
11/5" W x 5.3/4 " T x 5 3/4" W
This is one of the most elegant and sophisticated items we've found in a long time. The extremely well made French large modernist art deco silver-plate jewelry box has an incredible look and style. Two very extreme thick amber bakelite handles with matching top. The color reflects dramatically against the shiny silver box. This certainly is a well designed piece with wonderful stepped details on the handles that connect the amber bakelite handles and also the edge between the box and the top, also reflect that refined high quality hand made piece. There is a beautiful silk linking in the top and bottom. A very elegant box for sure.
An impressive French hallmark on the bottom "Rafico Francia" made in a very famous house "Ravinet d'enfert" Paris! Can not say for sure that this was designed by Puiforcat but certainly in his style and made during the correct period. Let the design speak for itself!
Jean Puiforcat
Jean Elysée Puiforcat was a French silversmith, sculptor and designer. Miller's Antiques Encyclopedia calls Puiforcat the "most important French Art Deco silversmith."
