Claudius Linossier French Art Deco Dinanderie Vase, Circa 1930s
Claudius Linossier French Art Deco Dinanderie Vase, Circa 1930s
This exceptionally rare French Art Deco vase was created by celebrated metal artist Claudius Linossier using the demanding technique known as dinanderie. This process involved hand raising and repeatedly working a copper vessel before applying carefully controlled patinas to achieve subtle variations in color and surface.
The spherical copper form displays an intense red patina enriched by warm tonal gradations and a dark interior. A striking geometric frieze of silver patinated zigzags and decorated triangles encircles the mouth, creating a strong contrast against the richly colored ground. The restrained ornament and beautifully balanced form are characteristic of Linossier’s distinctive modernist style.
Created in France during the 1930s, the vase is signed “Linossier” on the underside. Its rare coloration, sculptural form, and exceptional metalwork make it an important example of French Art Deco dinanderie and a highly desirable work by one of the period’s finest metal artists.
