Art Deco Limoges Coffee Tea Dessert Set for Ten
Item #2716
An Art Deco embellished china Dessert Set for Coffee or Tea from the company Vielle Abbaye in Limoges France. This set is in impeccable condition and includes
a large coffee or tea pot, creamer, sugar,
twelve cups and saucers, ten dessert plates and extra small saucers.
The decorative element is in bright cobalt blue and gold in a jazzy geometric design.
The use of gold trim gives it a special sense of luxury and evokes a time when coffee did not come in paper to-go cups and tea did not come in teabags.
Imagine bringing out a set like this at the end of a fine meal when entertaining at home or simply displaying it in a glass front china cabinet . (See our collection of cabinets and vitrines that we offer at ArtDecoCollection.com for a bit of inspiration).
The name Limoges is so well known that people often mistake it for a company or maker’s mark but its important to note that Limoges is an area of France with a source of legendary clay from which outstanding porcelain is made. Limoges is a region…and the number of manufacturers of fine china that flourished in the 1920s were nearly 50 different “brands”. Vielle Abbaye is a small hamlet surrounded by forests, cottages and churches. The porcelain works of Vielle Abbaye specialized in beautiful tea and coffee sets, with gilded accents in Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles.
