Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet • “Ruhlmann” Tan
Item #3
Here’s a great modernist carpet with a symmetrical Ruhlmann design. The tan/beige background of this carpet works well in virtually any interior and beautifully compliments wood furniture. The geometric details in black, white and brown offer artistic contrast and visual balance.
About Ruhlmann:
Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French designer, painter and building contractor whose designs epitomised the glamour of the French Art Deco style of the 1920s. As early as 1910, he exhibited his wallpaper and furniture designs at the local Paris salons. In 1919 he founded along with Pierre Laurent, the company “Ruhlmann et Laurent”, which employed up to twenty young designers at a time. He also consulted freelance designers including Ivan Da Silva Bruhns (a very important rug designer). Ruhlmann retailed a wide range of floral medallion and geometric designs and his legacy as a designer was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004
