1930s Art Deco Multi-Shade "Poul Henningsen" Desk/Table Lamp

I'll admit - this is a wonderful business in which to be. There are always beautiful things to see and there always seems to be an interesting surprise every now and then as well. Sometimes however, there is something that just seems "right". This little desk/table lamp is just one of those things. Its proportions, functionality, lines and even its patina are harmonious and simply without flaw. From the brown cloth electrical cord to the simple stepped disc base to the no-nonsense push-button on/off switch to the cylindrical stem and finally the patinaed bronzy double-bell shaped shade, this little lamp simply rings true. It is perfectly suited for a small table, nightstand or desk.

We attribute this lamp to world-renown Danish designer, Poul Henningsen. Born in 1894 in Ordrup, Denmark, Henningsen became Denmark's first expert in lighting theory. In 1924 Poul Henningsen designed his first multi-shade lamp. The design was based on scientific analysis of a lamp shade's function. The size, shape, and position of the lamp shades determine the distribution of the light and the amount of glare.
