Original Art Deco Movie Theater Sconces Rare
Item #3541
Original Art Deco Movie Theater Sconces. Very rare to have two matching pairs. Original with some restoration. These came out of the Strand Theater in Lowell MA. It was opened in 1917, a beautiful downtown theatre which closed around 1971. Like many early movie theaters, it was remodeled during the Art Deco period with a typical theater marquee and interior changes to update the look. These sconces are from that updated Art Deco period.
Each fixture has been polished, electrical gone through and each fixture comes with 9 glass panels each. It originally was designed to switch between multiple color lights and white lighting. This was typical for movie theaters to catch your attention.
You can see that setup from the photos here. We are using it only with the white LED bulbs and they look great with a dimmer switch. They could be wired to use multiple color lights but we are showing them only with these white lights. The fixtures have a nice brass and aluminum stepped streamline crown giving it a stylized contrast and the base part also has a stylized Art Deco motif. Each piece of glass is installed at the top and slides down to be supported by aluminum rings and slots for placement.
