Art Deco Chrome Grill Majestic #161 Restored Tube Radio Bluetooth
Item #2662 SOLD
The Majestic 161 is an Art Deco Radio produced by the Grisby -Grunow Company in 1933. They began manufacturing radios in Chicago in 1928 with a line called “The Smart Sets”, This extremely rare radio was introduced as part of their “Smart Sets”, though it does not appear in their advertising that group. Sadly the company went bankrupt in 1934 but the inventory was purchased by Gambles .
The chrome grill is the most distinctive aspect of the “Smart Sets” and this is one of the most desirable with its fountain shaped design. The Art Deco Fountain motif is usually symmetrical but this takes a jazzy asymmetrical approach. The radio has been beautifully restored. The chassis has been examined and any of the capacitors and tolerance resistors that needed work have been replaced. The tubes have all been checked and replaced where necessary. The wood finish is now in great condition and the grill cloth is, very possibly, the original.
Additionally, this radio has been fitted with an 1/8 inch adapter which will allow you to use this with your iPhone, smartphone, iPods or record player. Access your old vinyl, or log on to Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music or the playlist on your computer to provide the tunes and use the Bluetooth connection to bring the warm, bright, analogue sound of a tube amplifier to any music or recordings you choose. The quality of the sound is excellent – just ask any guitarist since these kinds of tube based amps are still being made and used today. You will have the best of “digital” and “analogue” combined.
