Art Deco Etched Turquoise Daum Glass
Item #2206 SOLD
This turquoise Daum vase has an art deco etched design on glass of a most unusual color and clarity. The modernist tropical motif would fit in well in a South Beach apartment or a contemporary condo. It bears the signature of one of the most famed French glassmakers in the world, Daum Nancy inscribed with the ” Cross of Lorraine”
Despite its fresh and current look, this piece reflects much history as it bears its original sales tag from the shop of Broqua & Scholberg of Montevideo opened in 1856 by Broqua (of Uruguay) and Scholberg of Liege, Belgium.
Originally it was a purveyor of guns, knives and equestrian goods, later branching into silver items and a glass factory and retail store.
The business closed in 1936, though it continued until 1949 with the name Casa Coqueiro (Palm Tree House). Today, the building in which the vase was originally purchased in the 1930s is
a musem of art and history, the Museo Torres Garcia.
