Czech Art Deco Decanter or Vanity Piece
This marvelous decanter can be attributed to Karl Palda, a designer of Czech Crystal pieces with a distinct style that was modernist, jazzy and ahead of its time! Heavy, leaded crystal, beautifully cut and bearing an almost quirky asymmetrical design.
Although it is intended for liquor, it would be spectacular on a vanity table filled with cologne or bubbles or bath salts. It's a piece of pure Art Deco Luxury either way!
The classic black on clear glass with a touch of red that makes it "pop," the etched lines and diagonal stripes are a nod to the haute couture of the 1920s and 30s, which so often used angles, shadows, stripes, and bands of decoration like this. Can you see the similar effect in this high-fashion image by the master photographer Edward Steichen?
