Wonderful French Art Deco Leleu glass vase on metal base
This is quite a nice piece, one does not typically find glass by Leleu, but here is a wonderful transitional piece, probably done around 1925. You have this very ornate floral rim, much like Lalique, Sabino, D' Avsen and other great French glass illustrators of this period. You can see the wonderful play of vertical ribbed glass which completes itself in the deep floral rim, even some of the original red coloring remains on the rim. The other wonderful detail is the base, the metal is designed to look like Galuchat or shagreen. It was certainly the rage at this time. The glass is heavy and typical of the high quality work that was done during this time.
