Hand-hammered brass lamp Wiener Werkstatte attributed to Dagobert Peche circa 1920. Rare hand-painted original silk shade in immaculate condition. Most likely a studio piece by Peche, this important Viennese artist who worked for Weiner Werkstatte and worked with Joseph Hoffman, director and designer for the Werkstatte group. To find an original piece in this condition considering it is over 100 years old is a very special antique, It has been rewired and is ready for another 100 years of enjoyment.
Dagobert Peche 1887-1923, worked with the Viennese School of Applied Arts. Met Joseph Hoffman after 1915, Peche started at the Wiener Werkstatte, where he worked as director of the branch office in Zurich. He produced over 3000 items and is considered one of the most important artists from this period. So he would fit into Vienna Secessionist, Wiener Werkstatte, and Art Deco. It was said he was the greatest ornamental genius in Austria. He was known for blending the dramatic embellishment of the Baroque with the tones and an upward sweep of the Gothic. He worked in many different media from lighting, ceramics, and fabric designs.
