Roland Paris Bronze & Ivoroid Jester Statue Rare. This is classic Roland Paris, as he was known as the “Art Deco Jester King” which was reflected in his many sculptures. Reminiscent of a classical past and his own curious caricature approach reflects an original and unique approach.  A nearly perfect example of the cold-painted burgundy-red color, the finish of this piece—has great depth and details. The ivory has a minor repair but looks more like the typical striations of natural ivory in one of the arms. Roland Paris (1894-1945) was born in Vienna, Austria. He went to Berlin and studied with Henry van der Velde, co-founder of the Bauhaus school. His specialty was humorous, sometimes sad, and occasionally satirical bronze and ivory figures, often with exaggerated facial expressions. His works command high prices and are sought after by avid collectors.
