Deco Monkey Ink Well by Max Le Verrier Bou Bou

Item # 2315 SOLD

This Deco figurine of a monkey holding an inkwell is amusing and whimsical, but it also happens to be a creation of one of the most iconic and important sculptors of the 1920s and 1930s, Max Le Verrier.

"Bou Bou" the monkey appears in a few different  sculptures by Le Verrier. One rendition has him holding a lamp, another an umbrella. This one was produced in the early 1930s  and includes a removable glass ink holder.

It has a rich patina, a nicely veined marble base and will be right at home on your desk.

Le Verrier is famous for his animal sculptures- pelicans, panthers, antelopes, which were always done with his proprietary metals in his own foundry where he also produced the work of many of his contemporaries ( Le Faguays, Bouraine, Charles, De Marco to name a few).  He is perhaps most renown for his sculptures and lamps featuring beautiful women that exemplified the Art Deco Era.

We encourage you to search our ArtDecoCollection.com pages where we have many examples of his work, as well as more in depth history of the artist, his foundry and his work.
