Charles Breton Large Bronze Sculpture of Woman with Borzoi

Item # 3357 SOLD
Measurements
25" tall X 25" wide X 8" D

Large Bronze by Charles Breton silver-plated and gilded bronze on marble. Signed on the bronze circa 1920. The stunning piece, which stands 25" tall and 25" wide demands one's attention. There is a lyrical aspect to the woman's form, as her body and parts seem to be floating on a cloud and her adoring Borzoi dog looks on with the kind of admiration seen between animals and their owners.

Born in Tours in 1878, Charles Eugène Breton was a pupil of Denys Puech, Félix, or Louis Barrias. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from the beginning of the 20th century until 1939, receiving a third medal in 1904. From 1929, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants. Appear to be many lifesize public works more associated with classical design than Art Deco but this rare piece exemplifies so much that I associate with the movement
