Bronze Art Deco Warrior Sculpture by Armand Lemo
Item #2310 SOLD
An Art Deco Bronze by French Sculptor Armand Lemo that captures the essence of speed, power and strength in both the galloping horse and the warrior.
So many things make this statue a classic : The singular spear being used as a focal point, the idealization of the human form and the “S Curve” of the warrior’s posture, a nod to the Greek sculptor Praxiteles and his theory of infusing a stationary object with tension and movement by placing arms, limbs and torso in opposition .
It’s just a fantastic equestrian piece, with a great base and clear signature.
We have another companion piece: a female warrior on horseback by what appeared to be an artist working in a similar style but by delving into research we learned that “Melo” and “Lemo” are, in fact, the same artist using two names for his work .
