1930s French Metal Panther Sculpture • Signed Rochard

Here we have a mesmerizing 1930s metal statue of a growling panther by Irénée Rochard (1906-1984). Notice the unusual, natural pose and the manner in which the artist has captured this feline's strength and ferocity. The sculpture is made from a beautifully patinated metal and stands on a chamfered edged rectangular slab of beautiful marble which bears the signature "Rochard".

Renown French animal sculptor, Irénée Rochard was born in Villefranche sur Saône in 1906 from an important family of artists. His painstaking artistry imparts a manner of intelligence to his sculpted animals and tends to bring out their personality, their gentleness or, as in this case, their fierceness.
