Artist E. Petit Art Deco Woman in Costume Mask European Vintage
Item #3219
Eugene Petit is a fine artist from France. Art Deco Woman in Costume Mask European Vintage. This original pastel/charcoal painting with an original frame is in very nice condition. I bought it in Belgium, where it had been stored for many years. Eugene Petit was a French 19th-century painter born in 1839 – 1886. Eugene Petit’s work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices up to 20,000 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 1998, the record price for this artist at auction is 20,000 USD for Flowers in an urn with fruit by a bridge, sold at Bonhams, New York, in 2012.
Now that we are in a masking way, it seems even more appropriate for the time. A beautiful woman is embellished with so many accessories that help to make this painting inviting and intriguing. I am curious about which masked ball or carnival event she will attend. Since this is such an early piece of art, from the 1880s, it was the beginning of the Belle Epoque period in Europe. called the “Gilded Age.” In France, it has been known rather nostalgically as La Belle Époque, the “Beautiful Time.” 1875-1914
