Art Deco Oil Paining Nude with Rose
Item #3588
A classic Art Deco Nude Oil Painting of a woman holding a single rose that projects beauty and serenity.
A reclining nude is the essence of what is pure and natural, yet also desireble and forbidden. Nude images are both universal and timeless, yet it is the small details that let us know when it was created that capture our attention. The blurred, abstracted background in contrast with the intense detail of the model’s features and the textured pink rose she holds is a technique often used in the 1930s. The model’s hair style… swept up and rolled in the front but long and loose in the back is another hint of the time period. In those years, there was a popular fascination with a shape of a woman’s face (something that is hardly,if ever, mentioned today) but as faces were described as round, oval, square…a “heart shape” was considered especially attractive and that is visible in the way her face has been rendered.
The work is signed, and was purchased in Belgium, but the name is not easy to read and our research has not yet told us anything about the artist. The value is in the style, the technique and the age of the painting which is well framed and beautifully executed.
