Art Deco Sculpture Man with Broken Wheel by Le Faguays

Rare Art Deco  Sculpture of a Man  with a Wheel, struggling to push it with every muscle in a show of great strength and determination. This piece by  Pierre LeFaguays was cast in 1925 , and has rich patination and coloring.  It also  shows exceptional use of  detail.  The furrowed brow and facial expressions, the musculature of his arms and legs are so expressive.

Le Faguays is one of the most notable sculptors of the Art Deco Period.  He produced works using three different names ( Le Faguays, Fayral and Guerbe) and had his statues cast in the foundry of  his close friend Max LeVerrier  who was also a creator of iconic Art Deco sculptures.

Born in Nantes , France in 1892, he was most prolific during the Deco Era , winning the French Medal of Honor in 1927 and exhibiting in the 1937 Paris Exposition.  He is perhaps most  known for his female figures depicting dancers, but this strong and masculine image is one of the best we have seen.
