RARE 1930s English Art Deco Desk Lamp • Joseph Lucas

Item #1202 SOLD

It may seem hard to believe, but this 1930s English Art Deco Desk lamp packs just as much “WOW!” today as it did nearly 80 years ago. Maybe it’s the result of the stunning streamline design. Maybe it’s the result of that stepped (and heavy) chrome base paired with that sublime mint-green enameled metal shade and base streamline accents. Maybe, in the end, it’s just more than the sum of its components. For this very rare Lucas Company desk lamp is one incredibly stylish piece of Art Deco Streamline design. For those familiar with the Lucas Company, this lamp hails from the same series that produced the Lucas Bowl and the Lucas Globe. However, it is much more rare. The chrome plating is in fabulous condition and the mint-green enamel has been expertly refinished (we even had the original color digitally scanned so the new paint is an exact match!). Yes, it’s eternally cool! I love the mint-green infilled speed lines on the base and the infilled bar that runs across the top of the shade. The tubular metal shade revolves in the chrome arm brackets in order to direct the light. It still has it’s original bakelite insulating grommet for the cord at the back, the original switch and a nifty bakelite junction box within the base of the lamp. The Joseph Lucas factory markings are located on the underside of the base.
