Art Deco Table Lamp Iron Schneider Glass Shade

Item #2814 SOLD

A perfect Art Deco iron lamp with a pressed glass shade signed Schneider. This would be a great bedside, desk or accent lamp. The hammered, textured dark black iron is a nice contrast to the frosted clear glass with its deep moulded design.

There was a “golden age” of French glass and there are several names that are intertwined with the history of that period. We encourage our clients to look beyond “Lalique” (which everyone knows so well) to see the contemporaries who worked in the same era. sometimes in collaboration, but often in competition. Of this group (that also includes Muller, D’Avesn, Daum, Dufrene and Degue), Schneider had success in several varied fields. Brothers Charles and Edward Schneider worked first at Daum, then opened their own workshop specializing in electric lightbulbs until they were able to pursue their passion for art glass. They achieved recognition through the Paris Exposition des Artes Decoratif in 1925 and were able to create glass in rich colors, cameo glass with layers of colors that could be etched away to reveal artistic designs and the pressed and moulded lamps and chandeliers that make the French lighting fixtures so highly regarded.
