Alabaster and Nickel Art Deco Chandelier

Item #2245 SOLD

This unique combination of highly polished nickel with hand carved alabaster is a good example of “ornate , early art deco”. Embellished with  a motif of cascading grapes , fluted edging and scalloped cups of highly veined , warmly colored alabaster it will dress up any room but makes an ideal dining room fixture.

Contemporary pieces done in nickel are often have a brushed or dulled finish but this one from the 1920s has such a great sheen it appears to be silver plated (yet it won’t tarnish).

Still, the real “star of the show” is the alabaster which is a staglamitic limestone, a mineral substance used throughout even ancient history to create vessels , sculptures and even windows in its finest form. It allows light to pass through it, and the graining and veining gives it the special effect.

The six arms , each with an open alabaster shade gives a flattering light with candelabra bulbs.
