Art Deco Smoking and Cocktail Table

Item #2296 SOLD

This Jazz Age gem takes the art of “reverse painted glass” and combines it with a slick metal  edging and legs to create a playful, artistic cocktail and smoking stand in bold colors . This piece speaks volumes about the glamorous impression of smoking and drinking with its matching cigarette cutter and matchbook holder, and the two original martini glasses we will send along with your purchase.

Reverse paint, sometimes called  verre églomisé   is a technique employed  since the Middle Ages, but made especially popular in the 1920s and 30s when it was used to decorate serving trays and picture frames . The image is applied on the back side of the glass so that we see the shiny side…and can easily clean the surface without harming the art. In this piece the abstracted image of a woman in a top hat with confetti and streamers gives it a fun and festive style. So modern in its time!
