Elegant French Art Deco Settee and Chairs by Paul Follot

Item #2154 SOLD

We present an elegant, spectacular and complete seating suite by one of the most important designers of the Art Deco Period- Paul Follot.   Included are a charming settee with gilded wood and  decorative carved panels, two matching chairs in the classic early 1920s silhouette and even a small side chair. All of which have been newly re-upholstered in a plush deep red velvet .

This set is from the earlier part of the Deco movement…the era in which the embellishments of Art Nouveau were evolving and yet there was still a great employment of ornamentation and hand craft.  Paul Follot was one of a group of designers who contributed in so many varied ways to the decorative arts: not just in the furniture for which he is most famous, but in art, architecture, jewelry, graphics, wallpaper and tableware.

He was born in 1877, and lived until 1941. During his career he was commissioned by wealthy patrons to create furnishings and interior design for their homes. Later he took his stylish and luxurious approach to a new level as he did work for important  international expositions. Follot’s dining room ensemble in sycamore, ebony and amarath, exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1912, is considered to be one of the very first examples of Art Deco ! He was an important contributor to the Paris Exposition des Artes Decoratif, the famed department store Bon Marche and for the great ship Normandie.

Recently, we were proud to be able to sell a similar small couch to the set designers of Boardwalk Empire and we wrote about it in our “Celebrity Blog” (Be sure to watch the 1 minute video clip where the main character talks about the furniture in the Onyx Club and his “sconces” from Paris (supplied by ArtDecoCollection.com). The Settee is in Season Five and Six.
