Gilbert Rohde Art Deco "Paldao" Dining Room Set for Herman Miller 10 pieces Complete

Item #2566

Gilbert Rohde is recognized as one of America’s most influential modern designers. His creations for Herman Miller helped propel the company into the forefront of modern design. Our dining set pictured is part of the “Paldao” line, named for the exotic wood used on the surfaces. The set consists of: dining table with two 14″ extensions, two arm chairs, four side chairs, a long serving cabinet, and and two upright china cabinets. The tabletop features a snaking inlay design on each end. The scalloped doors on the cabinets feature stylized carved wooden handles. This is a superb looking set. The set has been redone at some point and is in excellent condition. The chairs are completed in rich green mohair with contrasting piping, the green matching leather/brass treatments on the table base and the base of all the matching furniture, an extremely nice detail.. The large buffet has great storage compartments, drawers in the middle with shelving on the outside. The China cabinets also with sliding glass doors and lower storage behind matching doors.

1930s Herman Miller Modernist Art Deco Table/Alarm Clock • Gilbert Rohde

American  [1894 - 1944]

Gilbert Rohde was one of the pioneers of American Modern design. Starting in the late 1920′s, Rohde designed furniture for clients and his own furniture retailed by others. In 1930 he designed a line of furniture for Heywood Wakefield and beginning in 1930 until 1944 he designed for Herman Miller Company, using a variety of new materials and techniques. While Rohde designed for several other furniture manufacturers his work for Herman Miller remains his best work and some of the best work of the period. Rohde’s designs for clocks for the Herman Miller Company and lamps for the Mutual Sunset Lamp Company are classics of the Art Deco era.
