Art Deco Desk and Chair In Style of Ruhlmann

Item #1620 SOLD

You’ve probably only ever seen a piece like this in books on Art Deco. This custom piece was made for our shop, the goal was to re-create this famous Ruhlmann desk.

The goal was to re-create this famous Ruhlmann desk using the finest Abedul grained Birch wood (like the French amboyna wood) was chosen and the “ivorite” details were shaped and inlayed by master craftsmen working to create this timeless classic. Additionally, for the first time we created a companion piece that would allow storage, printers or whatever to help design and create a timeless room, uncluttered with all of the office elements typical of most enviornments. A real signature of the Grand Art Deco period. The finish is pure “French” polish with parchment leather inlay as part of the writing surface of the desk. The drawers are all joined in the class French tradition, heavy and meaningful. Even the chair is completed to emulate this design and of course needs to accompany the desk. The chair is upholstered in fine cream leather to match all of the inlays in the desk. It has taken almost one year to complete this and get it ready for the shop, so if this one is for you, it may be the only one for quite some time.

This one will certainly take your breath away!

Also available in a dark macassar wood by special order only

Ruhlmann’s legacy as a designer was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2004. In 2009, he was called the “Art Deco’s greatest artist” by the New York Times.
