SPARTON BLUE MIRROR RADIO 1936 ART DECO Walter Dorwin Teague MODEL 557

Item #2636 SOLD

Sparton Blue Mirror Art Deco Radio

This is a  striking Art Deco cobalt blue mirrored radio model 557 designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1936. The radio, known as the “sled” or “3-knob” is considered to be one of the best examples of Deco Streamline style. The radio features cobalt blue mirrors on the front, top and left side, with contrasting ebony lacquer finish and 5 chromed bands or “speed lines”. The asymmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance.

The radio is in restored and in  great condition and is free of chips, or cracks to the mirrors.

Wood “sled” base has  ebony lacquer  crystalline finish. Newly chromed bands in perfect condition. This is a prime example of a highly sought after radio that is matched by no other manufacturer depicting the art deco flair, presence and interpretation.

Additionally, this radio has been fitted with an 1/8 inch adapter which will allow you to use this with your iPhone, smartphone, iPods or record player. Access your old vinyl, or tune into Pandora, Apple Music or the playlist on your computer to provide the tunes and use the Bluetooth connection to bring the warm, bright, analogue sound of a tube amplifier to any music or recordings you choose. The quality of the sound is excellent – just ask any guitarist since these kinds of tube based amps are still being made and used today. You will have the best of “digital” and “analogue” combined.
