Silver Art Deco Lady Lamp with Globe and Marble Base

Item #2078 SOLD

A classic silvered Art Deco lady  lamp holding an illuminated globe on a marble base. This French statue has a playful, carefree pose as she lifts her knee and balances a glass lamp easily  on her wrists.  So many statues of the period featured lithe women holding globe lights…in a design that is as iconic as it is useful.

Our criteria for selecting the best of this genre?  The globe should look like a ball, light enough for the girl who holds it aloft to look…well, comfortable doing so. If the globe is too heavy or large it gives the impression of unbearable weight which doesn’t paint a pretty picture.  This beauty appears to be having fun bouncing the light fantastic. She is perfectly plated in silver and newly re-wired .  The lamp is unusual as well, with its two silver speed lines encircling the globe and the two toned black portero and cream colored marble base is charming.

There is no visible signature, but it may well be the work of  French sculptor  J.D. Guirande. Her delicate facial features and the curl of her hair are most reminiscent of his work.
