Exceedingly Rare Original Rene Lalique Art Deco Candelabra Bowl

Item #1633 SOLD

Undoubtedly the world’s most famous designer for Art Glass, Lalique’s name is synonymous with great Art Deco design and originality. His legacy continues to grow and without hesitation it is the one name that is always referred to when people come into our shop. “Do you have any “Lalique?” or “Is all this glass made by Lalique?” So it is with great pride that we are now offering, for the first time , a most important Lalique piece that has passed into our inventory (from a private collection). It is so rare that only an advanced collector would have the means and reference for a piece like this. The magnificent bowl shown here is depicting a classic pheasant on four panels, wrapped in a stylized Art Deco branch of leaves. It is a striking pose with a somewhat Egyptian motif and deeply carved relief. A stunning example of originality and art glass reflecting Lalique’s heralded technique. The panels are connected by a rather modernist shaped bowl using simple clean lines and a nice stepped base. There are four connecting arms cantilevered off the bottom which flow into smooth fitted disks with all original metal screws holding a glass candelabra . There is one small flaw on one of the arms (pictured here) which has been professionally repaired and not visible while the object is in place. The signature shows that it is an early example of Lalique’s work with a hand engraved “Lalique France” on the outside of the lower cantilevered arm.

The name of the piece is: Chandelier faisans, this model was created in 1942.
White glass molded pressed-colored satin and made of several parts using special hot glue to put together.

The reference is: Marcilhac, Félix “R. Lalique, catalogue raisonné“, Les éditions de l’amateur, 1989.
