Austrian Vienna Secession Silver Candelabra Circa 1910. This massive and sculptural design is silver with the Austrian maker mark HS and of the head of Diana. Over 1050 grams of silver. Fantastic design and it is scarce to see any work of this size and quality. It would look great on a dining room table, buffet, or mantlepiece. The design movement which began in about 1897 was closely related to the Art Nouveau movement. You can see the influence and relationship to those earlier times.

The Vienna Secession was the name given to the group of artists, architects, and designers that broke away from the main establishment of Viennese artists to form their own group, including Josef Hoffman, Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner, and Gustav Klimt. Formed in Years active: c. 1897–1914 its revolutionary period was brief yet its impact on the cultural life of Vienna and beyond was immense and enduring.

The defense of artistic freedom symbolized by the group was also a powerful example for supporters of emerging avant-garde art throughout Austria. The Vienna Secession itself continued as a group until 1939 when the growing pressures of Nazism led to its dissolution.
