Original Advertising Sign for Kato Sport Liquor

Item #2307 SOLD

An original advertising sign for Kato Sport “Aperitif Ideal”  a French orange  liquor  printed in 1930.

The playful and stylish image draws a comparison between a  Greek  athlete discus thrower and a waiter with his bottle and glasses balanced on his round tray in the same pose.  Even the Art Deco  font bears  a reference to the discus in the letter “A”

The line sec ou a l’eau simply means “dry or with water” while the text on the bottom refers to ” Creation of Grau Herfi et Cie in Lille, France”.  It is in near perfect condition, having been shrink wrapped for protection many years ago. Lithographed on heavy cardboard and with the original red string to hang the sign, this piece is ready to become a conversation piece in your home-bar.

“Garcon !  another aperitif si vous plait !”
