Czech Glass Art Deco Vase by Karl Palda

A Czech Vase of thick etched and  tinted crystal glass in high Art Deco Style, this is an outstanding example of Karl Palda’s technique of combining delicate floral etching with bold, geometric panels of color in a hexagonal shaped vase. Black, amber and ruby red alternating with clear designs make this especially dynamic.

 

We often point out that every country had unique expressions of the Art Deco era and Czechoslovakian/ Bohemian glasswork was such an important contribution with the technique of layering hues and cutting glass designs..

 

Bohemian glass has a long history of excellence, beginning in 1200 and continuing in contemporary times.  The region that produces it is rich in chalk and potash and lead which contributes to the clarity and brilliance and the methods of etching and tinting have been perfected over time, evolving into Art Nouveau and later Art Deco styles with enameling and engraving.

 

Look at the combination of delicate etching and how it  contrasts with the strong , streamlined triangles of rich color in this closeup view:
