Art Deco Copper and Glass Chandelier by Petito

Item #2729 SOLD

A copper and frosted glass chandelier by French designer  Henri Petitot with original etched glass. This dynamic, streamlined and spectacular fixture is one of the finest examples of Art Deco style. This one is plated in rich copper that pairs beautifully with the frosted peach glass and the unique “wings” of glass that allow the illumination to create a special effect where the metal and glass intersect.

It is amazing to imagine this was produced in 1930 when the condition is so impeccable and the style is nearly futuristic. It is moderne with a bit of “Flash Gordon” drama. To see it lit up with the play of light aglow is stunning.

Antonin Petitot was the artisan who founded the company in 1878. His son Henri assumed direction of the company in 1917 and sold light fixtures in both a retail shop in Paris  and well as through catalogues which distributed lamps in France and even in the United States. The metal work was really their forte and they joined forces with some of the greatest producers of glasswork from that period. They worked with glassmakers Muller, Sabino, Degue and Schneider
