French Normandy Art Deco Centerpiece • Signed Villedieu

Item #1094 SOLD

This strikingly glamorous 1930s modernist/streamline copper centerpiece will hold fruit AND your attention. The generously sized copper bowl sits upon a strong deco copper stepped base. Elegant swooping brass lines sprout from a rosewood cylinder to the unusual lightning bolt influenced handles. The brass handle design contrasts beautifully against the copper bowl and pedestal while the rosewood detail offers an interesting textural shift. This beautifully crafted piece of functional art is signed FLH, Marque Deposee (Registered Trademark), Garanti Villedieu (Guaranteed Villedieu) and France on the bottom.

Villedieu Les Poeles is known as “The City Of Copper,” in Normandy, France. Its inhabitants are called Sourdins from the French word “sourd” meaning deaf. Most of the people involved in the manufacturing of copper pans, which involved repeated hammering, became deaf.
